Tammy Christel

Tammy Christel descends from a close constituent of Impressionist artist Mary Cassatt’s; one of the first Americans to meet and cultivate Europe’s great Impressionists. Subsequently, Tammy began appreciating the visual arts at an early age. She has kept the arts close at hand, studying their history, exploring art hubs, writing about and collaborating with artists and their work.

As a television scriptwriter, Tammy created hundreds of descriptive ‘art stories’ for WGBH Public Television’s annual live fine arts auction. At WGBH she oversaw production of special arts segments, working with artists, collectors, dealers and other arts specialists. Tammy also worked in a producing role for “Antiques Roadshow,” Public Television’s most popular program.

WGBH prepared Tammy well for her journalist role at the weekly paper, Planet Jackson Hole. Her column, “Arts Observatory,” pioneered a new level of arts writing in Jackson, quickly becoming Teton County’s most-read arts column. Each week, Tammy strengthened her connection to Jackson’s galleries and artists by describing their works and telling the stories of their inspiration to her readers.

Tammy’s art writing includes producing cover stories for the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s magazine “Call of the Wild.” She later became Marketing Director for that museum, communicating its range, qualities, and events to the public. She is a freelance writer and editor and consults on the arts for collectors, filmmakers, and non-profit organizations.
